When the average Dane describes Danish Crown as a workplace, the word creative may not be the first thing that comes to mind. However, it the overriding word used by Signe Flensted Kallmayer when describing her traineeship at Danish Crown.

She is well into her education as media graphic designer in the support unit Global Design, Danish Crown’s own In House Agency. And even though Danish Crown isn’t the most classic traineeship for this line of education, Signe feels extremely lucky.

- Many of my fellow students are part of media companies specialised in different fields or channels. In Danish Crown I get to work with everything in my profession through our many different brands. And when I’m back at school, talking about my work and projects, a lot of my fellow students are actually surprised and a bit envious, says Signe Flensted Kallmayer.

One out of seven media graphic designers at DM in Skills

For Signe Flensted Kallmayer, it was a natural next step to turn her hobby into her livelihood. She has always drawn and painted a lot ever since she was given the opportunity. That is why she also applied directly for the media graphic arts program from primary school and will complete the program in November this year.

And even though she has not followed the traditional path with her internship as a media graphics trainee, it has gone so well that she is one of only seven media graphic trainees who will compete at the DM in Skills to become Denmark's best.

- I’m really happy and proud that I’m participating in DM in Skills. Naturally I hope to do well, but I’m actually not that competitive. I’m mostly looking forward to test myself with the tasks at hand and to challenge myself in a new environment under a different pressure with eyes and cameras pointed at you. That’s going to be a challenge, says Signe Flensted Kallmayer.

In the competition to become Denmark’s best media graphic trainee, Signe and six others are charged with the task of making material to a campaign meeting several requirements. The best campaign wins. All media channels are at play, and that is why Signe feels particularly well-prepared by virtue of her own experience in Danish Crown and not least the continual support from experienced colleagues.

- As a young person, you can have your thoughts about Danish Crown as a workplace, but if you do, they will be put to shame. It is a modern workplace where there is room for everyone and not least room for students like me who are here to learn. All too often we experience in the graphics industry that students are simply seen as cheap labour, but this is not the case here. When I hear stories from my fellow students, I am grateful that I gave Danish Crown a chance, says Signe Flensted Kallmayer.
