How do we handle waste from IT equipment?

Sustainability is a strategic focus area for the Danish Crown Group, and that also goes for our used IT equipment. In the same way that our owners are held responsible for the climate footprint out on the farms, it is only natural that we must also do our best to reduce our climate footprint from our workspace equipment.

An environmental and social accountability – and good business sense

Through a collaboration with the company Egiss, Danish Crown's used computers and other IT equipment are recycled and sold to Danish consumers and small businesses. In 2023, more than 94 percent of the used computers were recycled, and this provides CO2 savings.

When computers are replaced at Danish Crown's Danish locations, they get new life in Danish homes and in small businesses. In 2021 Danish Crown entered a collaboration with the company Refurb A/S (now part of Egiss), who purchase used or defective PCs and associated equipment, repair them, and subsequently sell them on the webshop www.refurb.eu.

Rather than reselling the used IT equipment on the international market, the collaboration ensures that the resale is focused primarily on the Nordic consumer market, where the equipment is bought by consumers and smaller companies in the region, keeping any additional transportation of the equipment to a minimum.

In total, Danish Crown has handed over 2.111 PCs to Refurb, who has recycled 93% of the equipment. This gives a CO2-saving of 521.000 kg. C02.

We can do more

We are currently working on expanding the collaboration with Egiss to cover all Danish Crown Group’s locations across the globe. This expansion is expected to be in place within the second quarter of 2024.
